Purpose
This process fixes an issue where a BrightSign player that has been reset and reprovisioned will still default back to the last network it was assigned to.
Use this method when a player needs to be fully moved from one BrightAuthor:connected network to a different one.
Summary
A normal reset and reprovision is not always enough to move a player to a new network. The player may continue to reconnect to its previous network. To fully reassign it, you must:
- Reprovision the player from the old network
- Delete it from the old network list
- Perform a factory reset using an SD card
- Claim and activate it in the new network
- Apply the desired setup file once it appears live
Procedure
1. Reprovision the player from the old network
In BrightAuthor:connected:
- Go to Network
- Find the player
- Open Settings
- Go to Control
- Select Reprovision Player
This clears the player’s current provisioning and prepares it to be reassigned.
2. Delete the player from the old network
After starting the reprovision process:
- Remove the player from the old network’s player list
This helps prevent the player from continuing to associate with the previous network.
3. Factory reset the player with a clean SD card
Prepare a clean SD card:
- Format the card as exFAT
- Copy the factory reset
autorun.brsfile onto the card - Factory reset file
Insert the SD card into the player and allow the reset process to complete.
This step is important because resetting and reprovisioning alone may not fully break the association with the previous network.
4. Claim the player in the new network
In the new BrightAuthor:connected network:
- Go to the Home page
- Use Claim and activate your player
This attaches the player to the new network and applies a default setup.
5. Confirm the player is live in the new network
Wait until the player appears in the new network as a live player.
Do not apply additional setup files until the player has successfully appeared in the correct network.
6. Apply the final setup as needed
Once the player is live in the new network:
- Apply a new setup file as normal
- This can include configuring the player for BSN.cloud
This is the final step if the goal is to move the player onto a different network so it can then be configured for cloud deployment.
Important Notes
- A basic reset and reprovision may not be enough on its own.
- If the player is not fully cleared, it may reconnect to the previous network automatically.
- Use a clean SD card and make sure it is properly formatted before loading the factory reset file.
- Always confirm the player is live in the new network before pushing a new setup.
